Organising & Keeping Things Neat: Screenplay & Stageplay

Hello, everyone! [Waves.] It is awards season again and I thought I'd try to impress the voters even though I have not been nominated for anything this year (that's how thirsty I am). Note: Many of the photos in this post... Continue Reading →

Blogging Anniversary: December 19, 1999! ♥

In case you haven't noticed, I've used a Wingdings heart (instead of a Unicode emoji) for the title, because it was those good old days when you had to know how to code (HTML/CSS) and people would make blogs from... Continue Reading →

Mia KZL: Diginity

IDK what got into me. I just woke-up, snapped, and started to speed-type this on Monday morning (I was still half asleep, in a dreamlike state, when I wrote this that I had to look up “consideration” in the dictionary because I forgot what the Indonesian word for it is—so I’d say this is part of my honest subconscious). Didn’t even have this set-up in my social media planner. It felt urgent. Though I did some paragraphs before finally making it public Tuesday though. I nearly titled it “Mia KZL: Manifesto Harga Diri” after ‘A Virgin’s Manifesto‘ from “Cruel Intentions” but decided against it because it sounded dumb and silly. LOL.

I’m reblogging this here, on my English blog, because it does touch upon film, theatre, acting, and casting. But we warned: It’s mostly not in English (there are untranslatable English bits sprinkled here and there, but running it through Google Translate won’t do since it’s mostly Jakartan slang).

Sebel. Kadang gw sedih ngelihat orang Indonesia yang nggak punya harga diri.

Gw nggak menyalahkan orang punya colonial hangover (mentalitas inferior akibat bertahun-tahun dijajah) tapi kadang suka kebangetan. Ngelihat orang sini ngekor di belakang WNA (berkulit putih) kayak dayang-dayang. Tour guide bukan, tapi kayak berprofesi tour guide (udah melewati batas ‘ramah’ normal, menjilat lebih tepatnya). Internalised racism dan colonial mentality-nya itu, lho. Kasarnya, mereka punya “mental inlander”.

#WorldAIDSDay: My Op-Ed on the Inclusion of Unnecessary Medical Evaluations in Recruitment Processes in Indonesia (from 2008)

On this year's World AIDS Day, I would like to share with everybody an op-ed I wrote for (and ironically about) The Jakarta Post in 2008. Eyeroll. I swear this was more ironic than the fact that hipsters are unhip mindless sheeple... Continue Reading →

I have changed my WordPress theme today! Hm. ♏️👸🏻🍂🔥✨ #StillHalloweening

From Kelly to Baskerville. I like the picture of the wet-from-rain road by the forest because they remind me of gloomy vampire films I like a lot ("Kiss of the Damned" which I have probably seen about 9 times on... Continue Reading →
